Teacher Trainers' Assignment 1

Dear EFL Blogging School teacher trainers,

This week we would like to propose to discuss about:

 the project structure and timeline, project syllabus and curriculum components, and E-learning guidelines for trainers and mentors, such as tips for developing and assessing online assignments.
Enjoy discovering!

Task 1. Analyze the following links:

and identify:
  • 5 project instructive modules;
  • 2-3 challenges the project participants will meet while studying this content;
  • 2-3 solutions you would recommend as methodological tools to address the above-mentioned challenges, based on your prior experience as a teacher trainer.
Task 2. Based on the information you find presented in the resources below, choose 1 methodological approach you consider as most interesting and effective to apply in teaching your online training content. Give 2-3 reasons to explain your choice.

Task 3. One of the essential element to consider in developing an E-course is how formulate correctly the Assignment tasks, and select the learning resources.  Scan the links to look for some useful tips for your teaching style,

Example of Online Assignments:
  1. online rsources to study
  2. what the students should do
  3. how they should achieve this objective, and
  4. to what extend (how much).

  1. Task 1.
    The 5 modules are:
    - EFL blogging basics
    - Creating blogs
    - Video production tools
    - Creating an EFL blog
    - Enhancing the blog

    One of the challenges is commenting on other blogs. It needs time and attention. All the people will create new entries, tasks for students, videos, etc. Some of them will be really interesting and ready to use at the lessons. This a reason to "check" somebody's blog and comment on the found material or at least a good idea.

    The second challenge is the experiment on various blog tools. There a very good solution to it - TUTORIAL. Anybody can watch again and again the same thing and follow the steps.

    Task 2

    Working with adults is much more interesting as they are students and partners in teaching as well. We will have the opportunity to share experience and ideas on our daily teaching process. Many brilliant ideas come up in our mind while discussing and analyzing the assignments. As for 1 methodological approach I think that supporting new teachers needs effort and guidance. Sometimes it may happen just a hint or a small piece of advice to make the person believe in his success and competence.

    1. Corina, I do agree that "commenting on blogs" might turn to be a challenge for both participants and even trainers, since it requires attention and time. In such a case, as you mentioned the approach to offer immediate guidance and support might work best. Thank you.

  2. Task 1
    --Creating Teacher's Blog
    --Working with on-line Tools
    --Incorporating video tools into traditional teaching
    --Pedagogical Value of the Blog
    --Importance of Blog in evaluation process

    Challenges:
    -- Time-management. Working and studying upon this content is both interesting and time-consuming. It needs dedication and well-elaborated schedule. The new approach of learning and implementing of the knowledge form the given course, is a new way of teaching and thinking--the factors,that might demand a new vision from the participants and their total awareness of both need and time;
    --New tools. For some of the participants, the topics, tools,instruments and such modality to work and operate might seem either slightly familiar or completely new. It will need more studying and questions, it presupposes additional material to look through and skills to acquire. Sometimes the applications and themes can provoke the so-called "panic", and it all because of the novelty of the material, that needs to be studied profoundly.

    Solutions:
    --The first solution to make the learning process easier is to try to combine the traditional approach of learning with the new one. This is because most of the people might be slightly familiar with the tools. Theoretical part will go best along with the practical and on-line application of everything new.
    -- Next approach is collaboration and sharing, peer learning and asking questions through reading and communication with the colleagues-participants and moderators. It is always seen better when someone had already acquired the new technique and implemented it --for another participant, the additional explanation and visual aid can be extremely helpful;
    --For those, for whom the tools and topics are absolutely new, the best way is to work deeply into the theme, get more information, use as many instructions as possible from each link and resource proposed by the instructors; to use especially video applications,that proved to be clear and helpful.

    1. Dear Emma,
      Thank you for sharing such interesting predictions and solutions. It is absolutely true that " Sometimes the applications and themes can provoke the so-called "panic", and it all because of the novelty of the material, that needs to be studied profoundly", and the solutions for this might be collaboration & sharing, personalization of new content and of course, trying to reach more and more information that might bright on your mind. Thank you.

  3. Task 2
    Such method of teaching as "Flipped" instruction and classroom the one that seems to be a very effective one.
    First of all,for majority of Moldovan teachers it might be absolutely new. Taking into account that a teacher should always be "on the wave" ,means that using new techniques and methods is a priority and something that brings better results in teaching, improves and advances the students' level of language.
    Secondly, using flipped instrucions in classroom makes the students and teachers collaborate deeper and closer in terms of being all the time "together" -- they use various gadgets, interact with peers, try various approaches,they are mostly with the authentic language to improve their knowledge and they work at their own pace.

    1. Emma, you are right when you state that the mission of a teacher needs always to be " a teacher should always be "on the wave" and "connected" to students - the things that the Flipped Instruction approach could ensure in the classroom. Thank you.

  4. Task 1: The 5 project instructive modules are:
    * Blogging Basics
    * Creating Blogs and Integrating Online tools into the classroom
    * Integrating Video Production Tools into the Blog
    * Blogs as a teaching tool
    * Using Blogs to assess students' competences

    Challenges:
    EFL Blogging School is a very complex project and for this reason the participants will have to face different challenges into the learning process. One of them will be time management. We all know how much work a teacher has to manage the school requirements and all the other things beside school. Being a participant in the project they have to realise how important is to acomplish all the given tasks in time, otherwise they will get confused and lost.
    Another challenge for some of the participants could be getting used to work with all the new technology and moreover creating by themselves blogs, different videos and other things they are going to learn during the project.
    A third challenge could be integrating everything they will learn in the process of learning. This is the main objective of the project.

    Solutions:

    In order to make the participants' work easier they will need to try to be in time with all the assignements, this way the process of learning new things will become not so stressfull for them. Another solution is to involve as much as it is possible the students in this project and not to forget about collaboration among the participants.

    Task 2:

    One of the approaches I consider very interesting and helpful is the flipped instruction. In my opinion the whole project is based on this kind of method. I have mentioned that it is very helpful both for me as a trainer as for the participants as well. A reason is that every person has his/her individual way of acquiring the new information and the flipped instruction offers the opportunity for everyone to learn at their own pace.

  5. Task 3

    Dear EFL teachers , this week we will get acquainted with a new method of teaching-learning, that is called Blended Learning and Flipped Classroom. To implement it into your curriculum and everyday activity, you need to investigate the resources , acquire the necessary tools and techniques and start to introduce it right away into your classes.

    Task 1

    The task starts with the following steps: investigate the provided resources below, give the definition of Blended learning / Flipped Classroom; name the differences that you notice between the Traditional Teaching and Blended Learning:

    Task 2

    The following resources provide you with the examples on how to integrate necessary tools into your daily traditional way of teaching and transform it into the Flipped Classroom. Investigate the examples, find and name the strongest parts, the most interesting parts and the most appropriate parts that you really can implement into your classwork. Create an example of your own Flipped Classroom:
